September 18 - Battle Mountain, Nevada . The sight of the annual Human Powered Speed Challenge. This year the Deci-mach prize is up for grabs. On Thursday evening, Sam Whittingham, set a new World Land Speed Record of 82.3mph. This surpasses the .decimach marker of 82mph. Meaning....Sam went faster than 1/10th the speed of sound and all this on the flat. Check out daily results here.

Mellow Johnny's Opening It's official, Lance Armstrong's community oriented bike shop is open in Austin, Texas. We visited the shop, partook in some riding, some partying, some hanging-out. A good time was had. Thanks to all the crew at Mellow Johnny's for inviting us along. Here's a couple pictures and an article by Velonews that will give the weekend justice.
NAHBS 2008 We have just returned from the North American Handmade Bicycle Show and what a ride!! Sam's wicked bicycle design ended up winning 3 prestigious awards including Best in Show! There were are few celebrity surprise visits and one of them bought the bike....Check out the link.

Suzuka 2007 We're back from racing in Japan at the Suzuka Challenge, an 8 hour team relay race. Thanks to our hosts in Japan, our sponsor Astro Pro Works, my teammates and the many people that helped along the way.

New
naked dropouts We got our first batch of new laser cut boomerang
dropouts. These are Sam's own design and really clean up the back end
of a disk brake equiped touring bike. They allow the disk to ride in the
low position or in the standard spot as desired.
New
World Record!! Sam has set a new 1 Hour World Record of
53.91 miles (86.23 km) on April 8th increasing the Hour record by 1/2
mile. Wind conditions were crazy (15mi/hr gusting up to 25mi/hr) at the
Nissan Test Track in Casa Grande, Arizona, but all the competitors gave
it their all, many setting new personal bests. Many thanks to the organizers
Al and Alice Krause and the many other people that made this event possible.
Straight frames just got straighter. We finally purchased a very
cool alignment
system from Henry James which allows very quick checking and correction
of frames to within mere thousandths of an inch. Very exciting for us
and piece of mind for you. No more time consuming surface plate checks.

Human Powered Speed challenge 2003 On his way to beating
his previous speed record Sam goes airborne at the 2003 World
Human Powered Speed Challenge. Also added are the last two
nights of full SRM power files including some very interesting heart-rate
data during the crash.

beat her own previous speed by over 10mph and Sam improves ever so slightly
on his last years record at the World
Human Powered Speed Challenge.
